This distinctive design creates a protective, canopy-like shape when open, similar to an awning, which enables ventilation even during light rain. Operated by a manual crank or lever, it offers excellent control over airflow. When closed, the sash presses firmly against the frame from the inside, creating a very effective weather seal that enhances energy efficiency and security. Its design allows for placement higher on walls (e.g., above other windows or furniture) and is often used in combination with larger fixed windows or in hard-to-reach areas like above kitchen sinks. It is valued for its functionality, weather resistance, and clean, contemporary lines.
